Welcome to the homepage of Thomas Froese, a Canadian journalist and storyteller.
Writing widely from his experiences in the Middle East and Africa, Froese offers a unique perspective on news, travel and life. Unlike journalists parachuting into difficult places, he’s lived for years in the Third World nations of Yemen and Uganda. His work touches a range of themes – from politics to development to spirituality – and it often reaches closer to the soul of cultures. He’s sometimes humorous, often provocative and always enlightening. Froese left Canada to write from the ancient Yemeni capital of Sana’a, shortly after 9/11. Seven years and two children later, his family is now based in Uganda’s capital district of Kampala. While he contributes to newspapers in Canada and Uganda, he also partners in the work of his wife, Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese, who is the founding executive director of Save the Mothers International. Froese began his writing life as a reporter in St. Thomas, Canada in 1989. Since then he has photographed and written commentaries from five continents, and been awarded numerous journalism honours. In December of 2008, a rare collection of 99 of his international columns, plus dozens of captivating photographs, will be available in the book 99 Windows: Reflections of a Reporter From Arabia to Africa and other Roads Less Travelled.
